The Success of the Wound and Hyperbaric Center

In its first five months of being open, the Boone County Hospital (BCH) Wound and Hyperbaric Center (W&HC) has proven to be a needed service for BCH and the Boone community.

According to the W&HC Director Lesa Maring, the staff are healing patients faster than average Healogic wound centers with a median days to heal rate of 23; the average median days to heal is 29.  Since the center opened, four HBOT (hyperbaric oxygen therapy) patients have utilized the chamber; of those four, there have been 116 treatments.  Other numbers from August 6th through December 12th include:

*          Wound care encounters (each time a patient is seen), 513

*          New wound care patients, 77

*          Healed wound care patients, 47         

*          Median days to heal, 23

*          Average center healing rate, 87 percent
